April 19, 2024

Private finance mobilized by multilateral development banks (MDBs) rose sharply in 2022 to $71.1 billion, up 12 percent from the previous year, in middle- and low-income countries, according to the results of the most recent report on mobilization by MDBs and development finance institutions (DFIs), “Mobilization of Private Finance by Multilateral Development Banks and Development Finance Institutions.”

The report found that in lower-income countries alone, mobilization attributable to MDBs and DFIs rose to its highest level ever, $7.3 billion, a 41 percent increase from 2021.

Based on reporting from 27 MDBs and DFIs, the latest joint report presents results demonstrating how MDBs and DFIs have helped to put private capital to work for development goals around the globe. This edition also offers insight into MDB and DFI product innovation and the growth in recently introduced products, which are increasingly mobilizing more funds.  This is the sixth edition of the report by MDBs and DFIs using a common methodology first developed in 2016.
